Steel creaking from the underside and echoing makes most sense, that or demonic alien ghost babies.

Call of Cthulhu Terror Paths is a tabletop cooperative experience for several players. All players take on the role of Investigators, who work together as a team. The game comes with two maps, each with wildly different scenarios. Coming in 2022.

Sandy thought you might enjoy a peek at the various scenarios that he designed for Terror Paths, his upcoming cooperative Call of Cthulhu board game. We’re also including his adventure gameplay notes.

Today’s scenario: Attack of the Ancients

Scenario: Attack of the Ancients

Carl Stanford phones you in a panic. “The ancients! They’ve risen up. Something we did must have angered …”

He cuts off, abruptly. You’ve lost your phone service. You drive to the police station to see that it is filled with blue plasma horrors, distracting and maddening the officers. All throughout town are un-men and atom-powered undead. Perhaps the Lodge has the secret to stopping this invasion? You’d better find out quickly. You drive to the Lodge and rush in through the front door.

Sandy’s Gameplay Notes

The climactic scenario of the Carl Stanford at Bay campaign – it’s war! The Ancients have invaded the Lodge from their caverns and seek to wipe out the entire organization. You must rescue trapped Lodge members and find out how to stall the invasion.

Once you do, you leave the Lodge and enter the caverns themselves, picking your way through Ancient defenses and traps until you find the Ancient super-weapon, an atomic bomb. Your search needs to reveal how to set it off, after which you have a countdown to escape the caverns before it goes off – sealing the entrance to the Ancients’ Cave.

Immediately sharing with all my friends whose sensibilities include both anime and WWII (all 1 of them, not including myself). This video fixed my otherwise totally broken afternoon at work!

Scenario: Collateral Damage

You have finally achieved the glorious status of Son of Yog Sothoth, an upper-level rank in the Lodge. In the middle of that ritual to formalize your status, a Lodge member runs in and says, “We’re under attack! The ones from underearth … There are battling monsters everywhere.”

John Scott, his eyes flashing, says, “Those from below, they seek our wisdom. Once one side gains ascendency, they will kill us and devour our corpses for their dark rituals. We must prevent them from accomplishing their task.” He rushes off to prepare magic defenses. The police refuse to enter the Lodge, so it’s up to you.

Sandy’s Gameplay Notes

As ghouls and gugs and their allies battle for control of the Lodge, you must find out why the battle has come to the Lodge.

You must also balance the two sides in the struggle – you cannot wholly support one, nor the other while you find out how to drive them back to their burrows.
