Hello there! I’m starting the Ghoul Island campaign and we’re on the character creation phase. No one decided to play with a cleric yet, but I’m trying to get a head start if that is the case. I’m not dropping the campaign on any existing setting, so there’s not a set religion in our game.
There’s the Goddess of Light, but it’s a local deity and it will not work for characters not native to Farzeen.
I’m already using Nodens as the Warlock’s patron, and I’m not keen on organized religion for the Elder Gods. But the clerics will receive spells and other supernatural powers, so there’s probably someone actualy answering those prayers, right? What do you think is the best way to go?
It could be like in Eberron and divine magic is largely faith based and the actuality of a god being there is largely unimportant/theoretical.
Or maybe it’s more like Warhammer and the “good” gods are largely an illusion and the divine magick is actually divested by something like the Outer Gods and Great Old Ones.
Anyone can worship the Goddess of Light – I don’t think she’s strictly only for Farzeen people. More logically, I would approach the local religion the way it was done in ancient times. If you were a Greek, and were visiting Egypt, you would “map” the local gods onto your Greek gods. For instance, Thoth was “Mercury”, Ra was “Apollo” and so forth. I’d say that if your clerics worshiped any kind of good-oriented deity their service would be accepted at the Goddess of Light’s shrines.
