Hey everyone! I’ve run into some questions regarding the attainable gifts/upgrades when playing with friends. One of the most recent questions concerned the gift “peering into the abyss”. This gift states that as a team action, the doom meter can be increased by 1 to allow 6 points to be awarded as health and/or courage to the hero. The questions concerning this are below:
1) Since it is stating “as a team action” does this mean that any hero can utilize this once the gift is attained, or must it only be that hero that is “buying” the gift?
2) Can this ONLY be used once or can it be used each team action, if that hero chooses to do it?
We had one game where one hero used it at least 3 times to add 6 courage each time (they did move the doom track up by 1 each time though). We also had two other games: One game where any hero could use it during the team action phase and one game where it could only be used once, by the hero who bought it. Regardless of the game and choice, the doom track was increased by one each time.
Any clarification on this would be great!

Hello! The way I understand the rules is that all “team actions” available to a player occur:
– up to once per round (though in the case of recruiting and purchasing gifts, one “action” can be multiple purchases)
– during the “team action” phase
– individually (however, the individual rolls / payments / decisions can be performed simultaneously with other players)
– in any order the player chooses
The owner of this gift now has access to an additional type of team action that they may perform, but they do not also bestow access to that action to others.
So your answers:
1) Only the buyer
2) Each Team Action phase

To clarify and reinforce Anthony’s correct ruling: Peering into the abyss is a team action, which means it happens during the team phase. It does not mean that anyone on the team can do it.
You can use Peering into the Abyss once every single team phase if you want, until your team mates rise up and defenestrate you for advancing the doom phase so much.
Each hero can do each team action ONCE per team phase, so a hero who used it 3 times would have to use it over the course of 3 team
