In Cthulhu Wars: Duel, the giant plastic miniatures have been replaced with cardboard standees. This not only allows the game to be more affordable, but also makes it travel friendly and saves table space. This means you can drop a box of Cthulhu Wars: Duel in a bag and take it to your game night with minimal space requirements. Cthulhu Wars: Duel also doesn't take up as much table space as the original, allowing it to be played in smaller spaces. In short, this is the most accessible version of Cthulhu wars we've ever made!

Cthulhu Wars Duel: Extinction is a fast-moving two player strategy game in which you play as The Sleeper, primordial god of slumber and hunger or Ithaqua, the Windwalker, god of outer space and all that is coldest and darkest. Each side is strikingly different with unique units, abilities and strategies available.
Cthulhu Wars Duel: Extinction is fully compatible with the original Cthulhu Wars Duel game. Both are standalone products, but Factions and Maps can be mixed and matched in any combination!

Cthulhu Wars Duel: Reunion
This is Cthulhu Wars Duel Family Reunion — another fun expansion. It brings Lovecraft's famous hero Randolph Carter and 3 new beings to Cthulhu Wars Duel into play!
They are all fully compatible with the core game and the expansion. Each of them has abilities and features NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN ANY CTHULHU WARS GAME!
RANDOLPH CARTER: Unwise Cultist
The first player who reaches 6 Doom places Randolph — Lovecraft’s most famous hero — anywhere on the map. He starts on that player’s side. His abilities:
Disloyal — If he is Killed or Captured, he switches to the other player’s Pool and now works for them.
Man Was Not Meant to Know — If Randolph is at an enemy Gate, you can force your enemy to tell you their next Action.
JUNIOR OUTER GODLING: Angsty Teen Terror
The first person to do a Ritual of Annihilation places Junior anywhere on the map. He doesn’t belong to any faction and has three abilities:
I Hate Everyone — In any battle in his area, Junior joins the attacker’s side.
I Don’t Care — He can’t be Killed, only Pained.
I’m Going to My Room — If Junior is at your Gate, you can move him into an adjacent area free; you can keep moving him through a series of your connected gates.
THE FORGOTTEN GOD: No we don’t know its name. It’s forgotten.
The first player to awaken this Great Old One places it anywhere on the map. It doesn’t belong to any faction. Its abilities:
No Wonder It’s Obscure — If you have a GOO in the Forgotten God’s area, you can move all your units for 1 Power, if you don’t move into or out of the Forgotten God’s area.
Get Rid of It — It’s included in any battle in its area. Either side can apply a kill or a pain to the Forgotten God. (It has Combat 0).
THE GREAT DODDERING ONE: A senile delinquent
The oldest player plops down the Great Doddering One during any Doom phase. It doesn’t belong to a faction. Its abilities:
Do I Know You? — Either player can Move the Great Doddering One, or use it to Capture a Cultist. It stays out of battles, though (it’s not sure why everyone’s fighting).
Respect Your Elder Gods! — You can battle the Great Doddering One if you declare battle on it directly. It does roll 4 dice.

I really like that its smaller than Cthulhu Wars and you can travel with it. Also, that its a cheaper game for people to buy, so more people will be able to enjoy Lovecraftian Horror. This is a legit real Cthulhu Wars experience that will spread the good word.
Cthulhu Wars: Duel gives those non-believers what they've been asking for--a small game box and a low price point. Honestly, Petersen Games couldn't have picked a better time to make this game. In this horrible, crazy year they made their flagship game accessible for all gamers and fans to try out and hopefully enjoy. Plus, they gave us a great new low player count option for quarantine gaming. Well played Petersen Games, well played.

Petersen Games has allowed budget conscious gamers to dip their toes into the stygian depths of cosmic horror and reward them with an amazing game at an affordable price that is destined to be a legend in living rooms and game shops. Even the new box fits easily on a book or gaming shelf where it will take a place of honor in some dark hearts! There is so much to enjoy in this game from the amazing artwork to the wonderful strategy and gameplay. Cthulhu Wars: Duel distils Miskatonic mayhem into a travel-ready, two-player clash. Take up the mantle of the many-tentacled dreamer Cthulhu or the fecund horror that is the Black Goat as you struggle to dominate a world already conquered by beings beyond mortal imagination.
Cthulhu Wars: Duel is a pleasant area control game that stays fresh as it develops, with a fun Lovecraftian theme and fun implementation of the theme. From time to time it’s nice to be the bad guy!
Cthulhu Wars: Duel is an easy recommendation because you get 80% of the flavor of Cthulhu Wars for 15% of the cost. It’s an immensely satisfying game that somehow blends euro-like precision and dice-chucking. It’s a very easy play-it-once, switch sides, and then play-it-again proposition. While I may always prefer the big brother for the additional diplomacy elements that the 3+ player games offer, this duel is a great alternative for those who want it.
Cthulhu Wars: Duel takes the rules, strategy and tactics from the full Cthulhu Wars game and condenses them down to an affordable two player, 30-minute game. As fans of short two player games with depth, we look forward to many more plays. Bring on more Great Ones!
