Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Mythos for 5E (SPCM-5e)

(3 customer reviews)

Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Mythos is the most comprehensive guide to including Lovecraftian elements in your Roleplaying game, written by the author of the groundbreaking Call of Cthulhu role-playing game.

This massive tome contains over 100 monster stat blocks, dozens of which are Cthulhu Mythos monsters that have never been described for Dungeons and Dragons 5e – including new rules for interacting with 25 different Great Old Ones and Outer Gods (they are much more than a simple encounter!).

This is much more than a mere bestiary, however. Inside you will find new rules for Insanity and Dreams; 40 new spells and 30 Rituals – a new magic ruleset; dozens of mythos items and artifacts; dozens of Mythos cults detailed; and four new player races from Lovecraft’s universe – Dreamlands Cats, Mythos Ghouls, Gnorri, and Zoogs – as well as new character options, professions, feats, and race options for them.

NOTE: You will receive a download of this book FREE with purchase of the physical book – any edition!  Physical books are expected to ship in late May 2019.

NOTE 2:  YOU MUST VISIT YOUR CART BEFORE COMPLETING THE CHECKOUT PROCESS IN ORDER TO ADD THE FREE PDF TO YOUR ORDER.  If you have any issues with this step, please contact after your order is placed and we will happily correct the issue.

This book is great but Petersen Games has the worst communication/customer service I have ever encountered
While this book is fantastic, what garnered the low review score was how the company communicates with it’s customer’s about it’s products. I ordered wanting to support my local small game company, but the whole process to receive my order was a nightmare into itself (how appropriate)

Some quick notes before you order:

-Shipping took well over 1 month to get the book (do not believe the 15 day estimation on the website).

-Several emails (over 5 in this case) were sent to customer support, in regards to shipping since 15 days had elapsed, and no reply was given. NO updates or communication.

-I finally got a shipping notification well over a month after I placed my order, but no customer service response.

-The blurb about PDF at checkout was recently added, no such mention was on the website when I ordered, and I am still waiting on the PDF. I don’t know if i can handle the pain of going through their customer service for the it.

What would I give the book? 4.5/5 stars, but no amount of great content is worth the pain and frustration the company puts its customer’s thru.

Quick notes on the book itself:

-Finally a good system for multistage end game bosses/encounters

-Think of this book as 2-3 WOTC books mashed together to get an idea of how much content there it

-Beautiful art and well detailed information

-This book is a world building book, monster manual, and campaign supplement all in one

I would say I look forward to future content, but I shudder to think if I want to go through the whole ordeal of banging my head against the wall wondering if today will be the day I get an email reply or shipping notification about my well over $100.00 order…

      Hello Omar,

We are sorry for the lack of response. We have been working through a large back log of email for support request. Due to this backlog occurring and feedback from our awesome customers, we are implementing a new system to make sure this will not happen again. We can make sure you get the PDF as soon as possible. I will make sure to send you this immediately. All the best, -George

This book is something unreal. It is worth buying just because of the artwork in it. However, the book content is pretty awesome as well. Those new races are extremely cool. If you love Lovecraft’s cosmic horror and D&D you definitely should buy a copy.
Delivery was pretty fast. I get my book in two weeks which is totally great for my country.

P.S. It would be awesome to get a thematic character list with Yog-Sothothery added

I would have to say this tome is a must for any 5e player and DM. Though it focuses on the Lovecraftian has alot that could easily augment an existing campaign with the new specializations and player races. (Can one say Dreamlands Cats as a Player race?)

If nothing else, the book is beautiful. The Art is incredible and the 400+ pages are worth reading, if nothing else, for a more complete understanding of the dark myteries of the Mythos.

I opted for the leatherbound special edition…as I am a huge fan of the Mythos, but expect every pennys worth the purchase.

Petersen Games is a great company, producing High Quality products, and “Sandy Petersen’s Cthulhu Mythos for 5e” is a prime example.
