I love captain Censa and Nukki and the crew so much ive integrated them more into my campaign. First off I changed Censa’s warlock patreon to the viking god Njord. Censa thinks all the swim speed and water breathing hybrid stuff comes from Njord. Then i changed their ship to be freshly decommissioned Corvette from the last war in my campaign. They are privateers and disguise their ship to be a honey pot for pirates.
So far my players have bought passage from Italy (alt earth setting) to Antarctica (its warm). They had to shelter in a island’s bay from a storm and were attacked by goblin/deep ones. The deep one shaman used control water to wash the players off the deck and onto the island. The ship leaves after a second attack and the players have to find another way off the island.
Now plan for captain Censa and crew to show up in ghosts of saltmarsh for the various nautical adventures. I’m reflavoring the sahuagin to be deep ones and Censa is going to find the eldritch stones off them to sell later.
Then im going to run ghoul island , but I’ll upscale the encounters to be level appropriate for the party. Now one big change i made was the idea that Ghatanothoa and Njord have a fight over Censa and split her into two. It will be the human half of her that uses her first stats and has to struggle with her humanity, things the deep one side of her shielded her from like fear and doubt.
The other half is created by Ghat, a full deep one that uses the second stats. She’s every thing the humanity kept in check, over ambitious, over confident and ruthless.
Ive got some ideas on how that ends. 1 they both die fighting each other. 2 the party kills the deep half. 3 The party finds a way to merge them back together.
