A new Ghast miniature

I have several of the current ghast miniatures already but based on the description and the beautiful artwork in the Ghoul Island campaign, I would love a new version that matches. A ghoul riding a ghast would be even cooler. Cheers

I’ll admit, Ghasts are pretty much the Cthulhu Mythos creature I know (and care) the least about, but aren’t they like, human sized? How do ghouls ride them?

The rules describe them as being the size of a small horse or about the size of a griffon, around 600 pounds and around 8 feet tall. They prefer to move on all fours but attack standing up. Can be trained to serve as mounts and war mounts. Sounds cool to me and they are tough to kill

Yes they are fairly large, and move sometimes by hopping. I have posited in several works that the Gyaa-Yothn ridden by the Ancients in the cavern of K’n Yan are domesticated ghasts, but they are probably also bred specially for larger size.

They’re only semi-intelligent, which is how the ghouls in Ghoul Island bully and control them.

Ah. Is it that there are different types or do I just not understand what they are at all?

For context, I thought they were like ghouls, they’re vaguely human and hang out underground, but they are immaterial like ghosts.

They are like ghouls in some ways but are a different creature, and are not always friendly to ghouls. When Randolph Carter and his ghoul allies spot ghasts in the Underworld, they hide from them, hoping not to get attacked.

On the other hand I’d agree that ghasts are probably on some level related. Both are vaguely humanoid, and both have hoof-like feet, somewhat less so for the ghouls. They have some human features too, so my guess is both species developed from degenerate humans – in the case of ghouls probably from humans practicing black magic, and in the case of ghasts it’s less clear. The description of the human food animals from The Rats In The Walls sounds almost like they are trending a little bit towards ghast-level, and that was only about a thousand years of breeding.

My feeling is that any kind of underground animal is likely to speciate and form into variations, since it’s really easy for them to have isolated populations for thousands of years at a time. In the same way that there are probably thousands or millions of byakhee species, there are probably several dozen types of ghast. Plus the Ancients explicitly bred them for domestication so in that case they might be as different from the wild ghasts as a mastiff is different from a wild jackal.

Thank you for the background.  Your knowledge of the mythos is incredible, you are an amazing resource.
